Invitation to the 32nd ICM Congress from ICM President Franka Cadee
Bali, an island paradise that evokes visions of sunsets, beaches, and colourful festivals is the destination for ICM’s Triennial Congress in 2020, where we will celebrate life and midwifery together. “Midwives of the World: Delivering the Future” is the theme for the 2020 Congress and I invite you to join us.
The Triennial Congress is a unique, innovative, and meaningful event that occurs every three years. Each Congress offers ICM and its members an opportunity for professional and personal development. The ICM has steadily grown in membership (132-member organisations in 113 countries representing over 500,000 midwives), and with that growth the energy at Congress increases.
2020 kickstarts the final decade of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; a tipping point within which health care (among other) achievements must be completed, and swiftly. The enormous challenges facing midwives around the world will be thoroughly addressed, consistent with the theme of “Delivering the Future”.
As hundreds of abstract papers will be accepted for presentation in Bali, individual challenges – challenges faced by you on a daily basis - will be addressed at this exciting international gathering. Your experiences are the lifeblood of every ICM Congress and I hope that your participation will contribute to the shared experience for all of us at Bali 2020.
As representatives of the host country, the Indonesian Midwives Association (IBI) will ensure the warmest welcome, as will the people of Bali.
It is a pleasure to be the first to officially invite you to Bali 2020 and the 32nd ICM Triennial Congress.
